Pundits have been quick to describe Joe Biden’s challenge to debate Donald Trump as a sign of desperation by the current president, who in their words, has “calcified” poll numbers.
My guess is it might have been a debate prep team idea. But Bentsen’s gravitas and Quayle’s fumble planted the seed of doubt. Debate note to Biden: “I may be old, but I’m no rapist.”
Then there were those memorable Sarah Palin debates. Well said that we are all getting calcified from Trump raining down on us for eight years. But we have to soldier through November.
“I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mind. Senator, you’re no Jack Kennedy.” One of greatest put downs in debate history.
And Quayle was so poorly prepped he never saw it coming.
