MTG? WTF!
That calm you hear being shattered isn’t an earthquake or a total solar eclipse. It’s the hard-working Congress of the United States returning to “work” after a two-week recess.
Yes, the 118th Congress is back. Pack up the babies. Grab the old ladies. Everyone goes.
What’s on tap for the latest installment of the tour de farce?
In the House, the most powerful official in Washington, elected with a total of 170,162 votes, is threatening to put a halt to the work of an already do-nothing body by moving to remove the speaker.
Meanwhile, over in the Senate, the World’s Greatest Deliberative Body is preparing to hold a trial on the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas because … wait a minute I’ll figure it out … the House couldn’t find a way to impeach Mayorkas’ boss, President Biden.
All in service of the twice-impeached, four-times former president facing a REAL trial on criminal fraud charges, accused of interfering with the 2016 election by buying the silence of a porn star he slept with.
A House of Representatives already on its second speaker thanks to the Chaos Caucus, is on notice that Georgia’s Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Fruit Loops, is ready to pull the pin on another hand grenade unless Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Trump Toady, continues to deny the majority will to approve military aid to Ukraine.
"Mike Johnson is not working for Republicans, he's not helping Republicans, he's not even listening to Republicans. Mike Johnson is doing the Deep State's dirty work," Greene said on X. "We need a new Speaker of the House!"
Why is she so opposed to helping Ukraine fight the genocidal Russian invasion? Because Donald Trump doesn’t like that Volodymyr Zelensky refused to dish dirt on Joe and Hunter Biden in exchange for weapons in 2019.
Meanwhile, senators are expected to receive articles of impeachment charging Mayorkas with “willfully and systematically” refusing to enforce existing immigration laws and breaching the public trust by lying to Congress and saying the border was secure.
You know, the border where Trump and his acolytes promised (and failed) to build a “big beautiful wall” and have Mexico pay for it. The same border where Republicans demanded tough new laws as a requirement for Ukraine aid — only to reverse themselves after Democrats agreed and the Senate passed a bill that Trump feared would take away a campaign issue.
And then proceeded to impeach Mayorkas (on the second try.)
The Senate is expected to make quick work of the trial. After all, the Democratic majority is unlikely to want to take the spotlight off the Manhattan trial of Trump on criminal fraud charges.
Not that Trump, who is required to attend the trial, would allow that to ever happen — gag orders or not.
Get ready for the Greatest Show on Earth — and I’m not talking about darkness descending on a swath of the United States for a few minutes tomorrow.
Although that does seem to suggest someone else doesn’t want to be overshadowed, so to speak.
